Celtic finished the 23/24 season with a Premiership and Scottish Cup double, but things never stand still at clubs of this size. They seem to be working in the background already as they prepare for the upcoming campaign. The aim has to be to go a step further domestically while also improving in Europe, after managing to win a game in the Champions League last time around.

For that to happen, they will need to make some signings this summer. And it looks like they are already closing in on the first of those.

Paulo Bernardo did well on loan at Celtic last season. And just like Jota, it looks like the aim is to sign him on a permanent basis from Benfica. They have a buyout option of around £6 million included in the deal but it is believed that the Hoops are trying to negotiate with the Portuguese club and bring that figure down.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are confident that they are close to reaching a deal to signBernardo on a permanent basis from Benfica. Talks are progressing well with the Hoops willing to give more on add-ons as well as a sell-on fee.

It is believed that Brendan Rodgers is keen for the midfielder to be signed. On the other hand, rumours suggest that Bernardo prefers a return to Glasgow as well.

Considering the circumstances of the midfielder, it would be a surprise if he did not end up at Celtic Park this summer. Hopefully, the club will be able to bring that £6 million figure down.

Bernardo is a very good talent without doubt. And it feels like there is a lot more to come from him. He needs to be a lot more consistent and effective if he wants to be a regular starter at Celtic.
