There are not too many areas Celtic have excelled in since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers last summer. It has been an underwhelming season for reasons both on and off the pitch, but the club do deserve their fair share credit for managing to agree contract extensions with most of their best players.

It looks like another contract extension is on the horizon for Celtic. And it is for a youngster whose role in Rodgers' side seems to be growing.

Daniel Kelly has gotten a decent bit of playing time in recent weeks, as it looks like he has moved up the pecking order at Celtic. The B Team standout is set to be rewarded with a contract extension.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are closing in on a new contract for Kelly. The club want him long-term and are confident of agreeing a deal. The youngster has been linked with Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig as well as clubs in England but his preference is to stay at Parkhead.

it has been quite some time since a player has come through the Celtic academy and become a first-team regular for the Hoops. Kelly might have a decent chance though, if he can develop and improve his game over the next few years.

Callum McGregor is set to turn 31 in June. Matt O'Riley is expected to leave in the summer. Paulo Bernardo is only on a loan deal until the end of the campaign. And there are question marks around Reo Hatate's future and fitness.

All things considered, it would not be a surprise if a spot or two opens up in Celtic's midfield in the near future. Kelly needs to be ready to make the most of the opportunity if or when it arrives.
