Fabio Silva was linked with a loan move to Celtic in recent weeks but now, it looks like he will be joining the Rangers till the end of the season instead. The deal is believed to have been agreed between the Ibrox club and Wolves. Of course, many are viewing this as a setback for the Hoops, who need to strengthen up top in the January transfer window.

Oh Hyeon-gyu has already been named in South Korea's squad for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup. And Japan could select Kyogo as well, which would leave Celtic without a recognised centre-forward to rely on.

Thus, a loan move for Silva would have made sense on paper. But it looks like it was Celtic who decided against it.

As reported by CeltsAreHere, Celtic have decided to pursue other targets. They were not keen on a deal for Silva when his agent touted him to the Hoops.

To be very honest, while some fans might be disappointed as Silva is heading for the Rangers, there were a lot of doubts around the Portuguese youngster. He has struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League since his £35 million move to Wolves several years back.

His loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV have been decent but nothing to write home about. Of course, that does not mean that he could not succeed at Ibrox, but such a move does come with a lot of risk.

Celtic do need to bring in a more reliable goalscorer at the moment. The players they are being linked with will not fill the fans with confidence. Names like Mathias Kvistgaarden and Sydney van Hooijdonk have done the rounds of the rumour mill lately. Bojan Miovski of Aberdeen might be a decent signing.
