Celtic's need for a long-term goalkeeper is no secret to anyone. Joe Hart has been the number one for the Hoops since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021. He has done a formidable job since then, both as a player and as a leader. That being said, the Englishman is set to turn 37 soon and his recent performances have drawn a lot of criticism from supporters.
Celtic fans would like to see a reliable goalkeeper arrive to replace Hart for the long term. Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool is one of the most high-profile names to be linked with the Scottish champions.
Kelleher has always been considered a fantastic goalkeeper. He features for Liverpool in the cup games but Alisson Becker remains number one in the pecking order. The Brazilian is also just 31 years of age and should have plenty of football left in the tank.
Thus, Kelleher leaving Liverpool in search of a starting role could become a real possibility soon. Could he end up at Celtic Park?
Celtic handed superb Kelleher transfer boost
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Liverpool are making plans in case they lose Kelleher to Celtic. The Premier League leaders expect contact to come so Jurgen Klopp has eyes on Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a new cover option.
Someone like Kelleher would have to be considered as a major coup for Celtic. The Liverpool goalkeeper has been fantastic whenever given a chance and the only reason he does not play more often is because Alisson is one of the very best in the world.
Other clubs are expected to be interested in signing Kelleher as well, if he does leave Liverpool. But at Celtic, he could get guaranteed game time as well as the chance to compete for trophies every season.
