Celtic will hopefully be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window. There seems to be a lack of genuine quality in the current squad. Players who can decide games on a consistent basis. The Hoops have failed to find the right balance between youngsters and proven names in recent windows.

With Mark Lawwell leaving the club, fans are hoping for a change in their transfer approach. Celtic need to sign more proven players this summer.

Someone who is having a remarkable season at the moment is Blackburn Rovers' Sammie Szmodics. He is currently the top scorer in the English Championship with 21 goals to his name, despite not being an out-and-out striker.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are set to challenge Brentford for the signature of Szmodics this summer. Other bottom-half Premier League outfits are interested in the Blackburn Rovers player as well.

Szmodics played as a number 10 the majority of his career but has found a lot of joy as a false nine recently. So much so that he has managed to top the goalscoring charts in the English Championship.

Unfortunately, his heroics have not been enough to turn Blackburn Rovers into genuine contenders for promotion. On the contrary, they are trying to avoid relegation.

Szmodics' current deal with Blackburn Rovers is believed to run out in the summer of 2026. But if a good opportunity to leave the club arrived, one would expect him to at least give it a consideration, especially with interest in his signature at its peak.

Szmodics is 28 years of age. The Republic of Ireland has played for a few different clubs in his career. That is the kind of proven quality and experience that Celtic should be targeting in the upcoming summer transfer window.
