Celtic boss shares fresh Cameron Carter-Vickers injury news
Cameron Carter-Vickers is the best defender Celtic have. Unfortunately, that does not count for much if he is not on the pitch and that has been the case far too often this season. The American centre-back has been dealing with one injury after another, going back to the second half of the previous campaign.
There had not been any talk of an injury leading up to the Scottish Cup game against Livingston. Naturally, the supporters were surprised when there was no sight of Carter-Vickers in the starting XI or on the bench.
There were hopes that he was only being rested. But now, it has emerged that there are doubts about his fitness situation again, with what could be another hamstring issue.
There extent of the problem is not known yet. So, one can only hope that Carter-Vickers is back available as soon as possible. Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the situation.
Celtic boss shares fresh Carter-Vickers injury news
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers told Sportsound about Carter-Vickers:
"It's a precaution really.
"He was due to start and had a light session yesterday and he felt something in his hamstring.
"We did not want to take the risk for him and we hope it is nothing major."
Rodgers later ended up expanding on the matter on Celtic TV, as he said:
"We managed him through the last number of weeks and he got through a full 90 last weekend.
"We didn’t want to take any risks with him, we have other players who can come in.
"As a precaution, we take him out, scan the area and hopefully, he’ll be okay."
Considering Carter-Vickers' recent injury history, it would not be a surprise if he ends up spending another spell on the sidelines. He just has not been able to stay fit for any considerable length of time lately.
There are some fans who have even called for him to be transferred away in the summer. It might be a bit too early for those discussions. He is not having a good season by any means but is a fantastic player on his day. Let's just hope that this is a one-off campaign for him and he is able to regain his fitness soon.
As for Celtic, it looks like Liam Scales and Stephen Welsh will be their duo in the heart of defence for the time being. They did concede twice against Livingston at home though.
