Celtic have a lot of work to do in the upcoming summer transfer window. The club have left a lot to be desired with their performances and results this season. They are still competing for the Premiership and the Scottish Cup, but no matter how this campaign ends, hopefully reinforcements will be brought in.

Celtic have found goals hard to come by this season. And they are being linked with one of the most in-form players in the Englishman Championship.

The player in question is none other than Sammie Szmodics, who currently sits atop the Championship scoring charts. Having played most of his career as a number 10, he has found a lot of joy this season playing as a false nine for Blackburn Rovers. He even recently made his debut for the Republic of Ireland national team.

Szmodics has been fantastic but Blackburn Rovers are potential relegation contenders despite his heroics. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 27 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Szmodics' form appears to have caught the attention of a lot of teams and understandably so. One of them seems to be Celtic.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, bookies have Celtic as second favourites to sign Szmodics. Fulham, Brentford and several other English clubs are believed to be in the mix to sign the Blackburn Rovers standout.

Szmodics is 28 years of age. So, he is very much in his prime and that is not the type of signing Celtic have often made in recent years.

That being said, there has been speculation that Celtic will change their approach to transfers from this summer after how things have gone for the majority of their recent signings. It remains to be seen how things play out.
