Celtic appear to be on the verge of completing their fourth signing of the summer. So far, they have added two goalkeepers. Kasper Schmeichel was brought in as a free agent and has impressed since arriving. On the other hand, Viljami Sinisalo was signed from Aston Villa for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £1 million. Following a long-drawn saga, Paulo Bernardo was brought in on a permanent basis from Benfica as well.
One transfer saga that has drawn on for even longer is that of Adam Idah. The Irish striker was fantastic while on loan at Celtic.
The problem is, Celtic did not have an option to buy included in the loan deal for Idah. That gave Norwich City a lot of leverage this summer and the Canaries have made the most of it.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic have agreed personal terms with Idah and he will undergo a medical imminently. The two clubs have reached a full agreement over a deal worth £8.5 million plus £1 million of add-ons.
Celtic agree personal terms as next signing close
If those add-ons are met, it would make Idah the most expensive signing in Celtic history. The current record is the £9 million fee that the club shelled out to sign Odsonne Edouard from PSG.
Idah did well on loan at Celtic Park in the second half of last season but one could argue that he was not good enough to become the club's record signing. Bojan Miovski had a better season and is a more proven goalscorer than the Irishman, and he was available for a lower transfer fee.
Celtic deserve credit for showing ambition and getting the striker they wanted. They have not done that very often in recent years, often settling for other options.
