Celtic accept bargain transfer offer for 25-year-old
Celtic might have signed just four players so far in this transfer window but there are a lot of players who have departed the club this summer, whether on a permanent deal or on loan. Most of those exits are not expected to have much of an effect on Brendan Rodgers' team. A few will, like Matt O'Riley joining Brighton & Hove Albion or highly-rated youngsters like Rocco Vata, Bosun Lawal and Daniel Kelly departing.
Now, it looks like Celtic are ready to say goodbye to a long-time player. Someone who came through the club's academy and has made almost 100 appearances for the Hoops.
As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Sheffield United have agreed a transfer fee of around £2.5 million for Mikey Johnston. It’s anticipated that this agreement could smooth things over in Celtic’s pursuit of the English club's centre-back Auston Trusty.
Johnston spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion and looked absolutely fantastic. Celtic recently signed Adam Idah on a £9.5 million transfer deal. There is no reason for the Hoops to have not gotten something close to that figure for the winger, considering how similar their stints were. Yet, here we are.

Johnston was always a fantastic talent. But for one reason or another, it never worked out for him at Celtic Park.
He was getting chances early on in his career and impressing. But then, he faced several injury problems which ended up derailing things for the winger.
When Johnston returned to fitness, he failed to showcase that old spark in a Celtic jersey. It is understandable why the club felt that it was time to part ways. But the transfer fee for which he is leaving feels a bit on the low end.
