Coming into the January transfer window, Celtic were expected to sign a striker. The Hoops have not been the most efficient in front of goal this season. Kyogo's numbers have dropped by quite a bit since Brendan Rodgers replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager. On the other hand, Oh Hyeon-gyu remains an inconsistent contributor and a good cover option at best.

Then there was the AFC Asian Cup as well. Kyogo was not called up by the Japan national team though, which reduced the urgency around the striker situation for Celtic.

Even then, not many would have expected the club to have not added to their ranks up front, with less than a week left in the January transfer window. More worryingly, there are no concrete rumours about a move being close either.

Tommy Conway is someone who has been linked with Celtic this month. The Bristol City striker recently was in the headlines for scoring twice against West Ham United, over two games, in the FA Cup to help his team to the next round.

It might be difficult for Celtic to bring Conway to Parkhead though. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Peter Grant told Go Radio:

"You are talking about £6-7 million, and that’s after you have had two good games. You have been on the television. That’s what it becomes."

Of course, that kind of a transfer fee would be a significant figure for Celtic to shell out for a striker who is not proven at the highest level. But then, if they want to sign top youngsters, they will need to be ready to do that.

Conway has been a consistent performer in the Championship for a while and it is worth remembering that Bristol City have been floating around the mid-table for years. Also, the striker is 21 years of age and has plenty of time to improve and get better.
