Celtic are heading towards a very important summer transfer window, when they will clearly need to bring in reinforcements after what has been a disappointing campaign for them so far, even though they still remain in contention for two trophies. On the other hand, it will be equally important for them to make sure that their best players remain at Parkhead.

One player who would fall under that category is Matt O'Riley, who has been Celtic's best player this season so far. But there is a feeling of inevitability about his exit in the summer.

O'Riley has been on the radar of some of the top teams in Europe. Atletico Madrid submitted an offer to sign him in January but it was turned down by the Hoops. But it would not be a surprise if the Denmark international wants to take the next step in his career at the end of the season.

A move to the Premier League seems like a real possibility as well. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Brighton & Hove Albion have been watching O'Riley closely. They are not the only ones, with Brentford also being linked with the midfielder.

It might be unfortunate but there is no denying that most players view Celtic as a stepping stone club these days. So, if big opportunities come calling, one would expect O'Riley to head for the exit door this summer.

O'Riley's improvement this season has been impressive. Even in the previous campaign, he was not always a nailed-on starter and for a period of time, was behind Aaron Mooy in the pecking order.

O'Riley has emerged as the main man for Celtic this season though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists in 39 appearances in this campaign so far.
