Celtic have not been performing at their best level all season. There have been decent displays here and there, but overall, this is a team that has never gotten going since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers in the summer to replace Ange Postecoglou. And if things don't change quickly, they might be headed towards a trophyless season.

Following Celtic's disappointing run of results, the Rangers have managed to turn the title race on its head. Philippe Clement's side have a five point lead now, having played a game more than the Hoops.

Something like this would have been unthinkable even a few months back. But the fact of the matter is that the Rangers have been much more consistent than Celtic in recent times.

Rodgers will need to ring in the changes if he is to get the best out of this team, both tactically and personnel-wise. Is it time to reshuffle the defence?

Frank McAvennie appears to believe that Maik Nawrocki should be playing more. The former Celtic player told Football Insider:

"Nawrocki is an international player and should be playing."

On the other hand, it looks like he has not been particularly impressed with Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales. McAvennie said:

"Celtic have spent all this money on him, so surely he’s better than Scales and Welsh?

“They’re not doing it at the moment, they’ve been dreadful at times.

“Every time the ball goes into the box, every supporter holds their breath because they think they’re going to concede.

“It’s not right.

“If David Watson hadn’t scored [for Kilmarnock] and Celtic had won, it would have just been papering over the cracks."

Nawrocki was signed this summer by Celtic from Legia Warsaw for a transfer fee believed to be around €5 million. But the Polish defender has not played a ton of football since then.

Scales has been a starter for Celtic pretty much all season. While he looked impressed in the first few months of the campaign, one has to admit that his performance levels have dropped a bit lately.

On the other hand, Welsh is also a starter at the moment with Cameron Carter-Vickers struggling with injury problems throughout the season. One can only hope that the American gets to play some consistent football once he is back from his latest issue.
