Brendan Rodgers' return to Celtic has been underwhelming. The first time around, we saw him deliver the Invincible season upon arriving at Parkhead. But right now, it is a genuine possibility that the Hoops could finish trophyless. At the same time, it is also possible that they could do a Premiership and Scottish Cup double. It is about how they finish the campaign.

Considering the circumstances, one cannot say that Rodgers will definitely be the Celtic manager come next season. If the club finish the season without a trophy, there will be pressure to make a change.

Of course, Celtic's underwhelming form is not completely down to Rodgers or the players. The club have not really done enough to back the manager and the team.

As reported by Football Insider, Rodgers is set to demand full backing from the board in the summer transfer window. The manager is believed to be dismayed by both the quality of signing and with the size of the transfer budget he has received. Sources say he has been left “furious” with some of the club's transfer business since his return.

Of course, Celtic clearly need to improve a lot when it comes to transfers. It is not that the club have not made signings, because they have brought in plenty of players.

Rarely has one of them made a proper impact on the team though. There has not been one standout signing this season. The likes of Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idad and Yang Hyun-jun have shown flashes of quality but are yet to prove themselves as genuine gamechangers.

With Mark Lawwell leaving the club, it remains to be seen if the recruitment policy changes next summer. Fans would love to see some experienced and proven players brought in rather than making never-ending project signings.
