Brendan Rodgers shares Celtic's striker transfer plan
By StevieMac
After a solid win in their preseason friendly in Washington against DC United at the weekend, the Celtic players are getting themselves into shape to take on Manchester City. But fans' focus is still on new signings and adding quality to the team. Naturally, they will be interested in Brendan Rodgers talking about what he wants to add to his squad this summer.
Celtic are believed to be pursuing the return of Adam Idah, but with Norwich City seemingly uncertain about their plans for the striker it may take more time to reach an agreement. With Oh Hyeon-gyu and Rocco Vata having moved on, that just leaves Kyogo Furuhashi as the sole centre forward in the squad.
It goes without saying that reinforcements are needed up top. Rodgers has been sharing his thoughts on filling the void that exists currently.
It looks like Celtic could be looking to bring in not one but two strikers this summer. As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said regarding the situation:
"I think my ideal scenario was to have three, was to have Kyogo, one other one and bring through a young player.
“That was the role we came up for at Rocco. It’s very difficult for a club of this size to have three number one strikers. You can live with two because we play so many games and the specific nature of the games then we can change it about. Three is very difficult. But I also think for development I want to bring some young, maybe a player from within.
“Rocco was that but he’s moved on. So we may have to look elsewhere. But three is a really good number. Two, I would say to be number one strikers, and one that we can nurture and develop."

It sounds like Rodgers wants two more forwards in order to have three options available for selection. But the manager has also managed fans' expectations somewhat.
The plan seems to be for Kyogo and a second forward to compete and interchange in the starting spot. Much like the Japanese international and Idah did for the second half of last season. Then there is a place to develop a third forward alongside.
The plan depends on who will want to come in to play that third role. The chance to develop at a major club will excite some players. Others may see Kyogo and perhaps Idah blocking their route and look at Vata deciding to turn down the same opportunity and decide it’s not for them either.
