Brendan Rodgers reacts to Kasper Schmeichel to Celtic links
Celtic's biggest need this summer is most probably finding a new number one. Joe Hart vacated the spot, having held the first-team gloves for the past three seasons, as he retired from the game. Now, the Hoops need to bring in someone who can take the Englishman's place between the posts. That is not an easy task to say the least.
Of course, one of the key things that Hart brought to the table for Celtic was experience. And recently, they have been linked with another veteran goalkeeper. It is someone that Brendan Rodgers knows very well.
The name in question is none other than Kasper Schmeichel. Rodgers will know exactly what he will get from the Danish goalkeeper, having worked together at Leicester City for several years.
As reported by Glasgow World, Schmeichel's name was put to Rodgers at the end of the draw against Ayr United. The Celtic manager said:
"Kasper's a very, very good one. I know Kasper very well. But there are lots of names. and clearly I'm not going to tell you who those names are."

It looks like Rodgers is keeping his cards close to his chest. It remains to be seen who Celtic end up signing as their new number one this summer.
The club have certainly been linked with a lot of names over the past few weeks and months. So, it is really difficult to know for sure who Celtic are actually interested and what is mere speculation.
At this point in time, it does not feel like someone like Schmeichel would be the right signing for Celtic. He is 37 years of age and has not been anywhere near his best for a few years now.
He is believed to be available as a free agent this summer though. And if Celtic were to sign a couple of goalkeepers this summer, it would not be a bad idea to sign Schmeichel as the veteran option while also bringing in another goalkeeper to compete with him.
