Brendan Rodgers admits some Celtic players want to leave
Following the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock, the upcoming January transfer window became even more important for Celtic. Brendan Rodgers' side have struggled to find consistency throughout the campaign and look uninspiring on the pitch. Not just the results but also the football has left the supporters disappointed after two seasons of Angeball.
Questions are being raised about Rodgers' future at Parkhead already. But it might be a bit too early for that. One has to wait and see if he gets the club's backing in January because the summer transfer window was not great, to say the least.
To be very honest, Rodgers has not been dealt the best cards. Injuries have further weakened the squad and the Northern Irishman is not working with a lot right now.
It is easy to recognise that Greg Taylor and Mikey Johnston are not playing brilliantly. But what are the alternatives available to Rodgers? Have the likes of Alexandro Bernabei and Yang Hyun-jun been better when given chances?
Rodgers admits some Celtic players want to leave
Signing players will be important in January. But at the same time, there are others who are expected to head for the exit door, having struggled for playing time. As reported by the Glasgow Times, the manager said:
"The work is under way for the guys who haven’t been playing. Obviously they’ll want to get out to play as quickly as possible."
It is understandable for those who have struggled to get into the playing XI to want to leave. Celtic have a lot of players at the moment but not many who can help take this team to the next level.
There is a clear need for some proven players. Those who can come in and immediately become first-team regulars. The Hoops focused completely on signing youngsters with a lot of potential in the summer. Unfortunately, the majority of them do not seem ready yet. That is one of the reasons why Rodgers' side find themselves in the position they are in.
