Brendan Rodgers rubbishes £30 million Celtic transfer rumour
Coming into the January transfer window, the idea was for Celtic to strengthen. Till now, it is unclear whether they have done that or not. They have seen a few players depart, permanently and on loan, but none who were making much of a contribution to the first-team. On the other hand, the only arrival has been Nicolas Kuhn, who has been signed from Rapid Vienna for a transfer fee believed to be around £3 million.
Celtic are being linked with a few players. There are less than two weeks left in the January transfer window. Hopefully, the Hoops will be able to get at least a couple of deals over the line by then.
On the other hand, one rumour that refuses to go away is regarding Matt O'Riley's potential exit. Recently, he has been linked with Girona. Several Premier League clubs, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid had already been rumoured to hold an interest in signing him.
But as tweeted by Sky Sports Scotland, when asked about whether he was aware of any interest in O'Riley, Brendan Rodgers replied:
"None, not aware of any."
Rodgers rubbishes £30 million Celtic transfer rumour
Considering how straightforward and relaxed Rodgers seemed about the matter, it is hard to imagine that O'Riley would leave the club before the end of the month. Never say never in football though.
There have been suggestions that it could take a transfer fee around or north of £30 million to convince Celtic to part ways with O'Riley. That would be a Scottish record transfer.
It is not hard to see why that might be the case. O'Riley has been a standout performer for Celtic this season and has both scored and assisted 10 times each in this campaign already. An impressive figure for a midfielder to say the least and he is someone who has stepped up to the plate in the big games too.
