Celtic broke their transfer record this summer to sign Arne Engels from FC Augsburg. The previous record was the £9 million they shelled out to sign Odsonne Edouard from PSG during Brendan Rodgers' first stint at Parkhead. The Belgian midfielder is believed to have arrived in a £11 million deal.

Naturally, Celtic fans are happy to see the ambition of the club. At the same time, it is safe to say that expectations are high and there is an added pressure on this Engels move to work out.

Celtic have certainly taken a risk here. Engels was a regular for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga but he has yet to prove himself at the top level. On top of that, he is going to have some competition to get into the starting XI at Parkhead, with Paulo Bernardo looking exceptional lately as well.

Owen Hargreaves knows what it takes to succeed at a top club. He won ten trophies during his time at Bayern Munich, including four Bundesliga titles and a Champions League. He would become champion of Europe again at Manchester United and also won the Premier League title at Old Trafford. He would then have a stint at Manchester City before retiring. And the former England international has backed the signing of Engels.

Hargreaves believes that Rodgers is not going to miss with Engels, having made that sort of investment to bring him to Celtic. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich player said:

"Brendan knows his stuff.

"He’s not going to miss with Engels when they’ve invested that level of money in him.

“Celtic have done a good job on transfers."

Engels has already added another feather to his cap since joining Celtic. He made his full international debut for Belgium recently.

Engels also earned praise for his performance. It is safe to say that learning from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne during international breaks will only help him grow as a player.
