Celtic got themselves a much-needed Glasgow Derby win to close off the year with a positive. Now, the Hoops must build on that result and the January transfer window provides them the perfect opportunity to do that. They must strengthen Brendan Rodgers' squad. But at the same time, there are some players who could head for the exit door.
While most of the transfer rumours have been about first-team regulars, it is Rocco Vata who appears to be drawing the interest of some of Italy's best clubs. And it looks like Atalanta are the one who have emerged as favourites for the Celtic youth standout.
As reported by The Herald, Atalanta are plotting a January transfer move for Vata. They seem to be preparing a deal for the 18-year-old which would see the Hoops earn a compensation figure worth €400,000. Inter Milan and Torino have scouted him in the past, but Gian Piero Gasperini's side are currently the front runners.
It has been a curious case as to why Vata has not been receiving more chances at the senior level, because he has been superb for Celtic B. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 11 goals in 18 appearances this season so far.
Atalanta favourites to sign Celtic player in January
Vata leaving Celtic would be seen as a blow by many. He is one of the players who had the potential to make it in the senior team.
It is unclear why things have not worked out for him. His current deal runs out at the end of the season, and he looks destined to leave soon.
Celtic have faced their struggles when it comes to bringing through youngsters into the senior team. And unfortunately, it looks like Vata's name is going to be added to that list soon.
