Everyday it feels like Celtic are linked with a different goalkeeper. The rumours have become pretty hard to keep up with and one can only hope that the club are successful in bringing in a new number one as soon as possible. It is a position that is in immediate need of strengthening with Joe Hart retiring at the end of the 23/24 campaign, bringing an end to a glorious career that included seven trophies in three years with the Hoops.

In recent times, Celtic have been linked with plenty of goalkeepers. Names like Caoimhin Kelleher, Andriy Lunin, Ugurcan Cakir, Anthony Patterson and many others have been named as potential transfer targets at one point or another.

Another player who has been linked with a potential move to Celtic at times is Viljami Sinisalo. The Aston Villa goalkeeper spent the season out on loan at Exeter City and appears to have made quite the impression.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Exeter City goalkeeper Shaun McDonald said while speaking to The Athletic:

"He’s wasting his time coming back to League One next year. I’ve said that openly and he agrees. He’s got a year left on his contract, so he would probably have to sign a new deal if he was going on loan again.

“I would say move to the Championship. I saw stories about Celtic, so something like that would be great."

Sinisalo has impressed at Exeter City in the English League One. He has experience of Scottish football as well, having spent time at Ayr United. And at 22 years of age, he is only expected to get better with time and playing opportunities.

That being said, one cannot ignore his lack of experience at the top level. Would someone like Sinisalo be well-placed to deal with the pressures of life as a Celtic player?

We have seen highly-rated players like Vasilis Barkas arrive at Celtic and fail to meet expectations. So, the club must be very careful when it comes to selecting their next number one. That is a position on the pitch where they need to be absolutely sure about the recruitment.
