Ange Postecoglou signing could leave Celtic on deadline day
Celtic made a number of brilliant signings during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager of the club. Over those two years, the likes of Kyogo, Jota, Matt O'Riley, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, Josip Juranovic, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, Giorgos Giakoumakis and several others arrived at Parkhead. Plenty of them have left already. Some for Scottish-record transfer fees. And more could be on the way out on deadline day.
While a lot of signings made under the management of Postecoglou worked out brilliantly for Celtic, there were some which did not at all. And then there were some who proved to be average.
Tomoki Iwata might be in that final category. He played a decent bit while Postecoglou was still manager of Celtic. But when Brendan Rodgers replaced him, the Japanese player found himself out of first-team plans.
Iwata did manage to make his way back into the first-team fold though and was getting regular minutes towards the end of the 23/24 season. But, he has not made an appearance so far this season and now, an exit on deadline day looks like a real possibility.
Ange Postecoglou signing could leave Celtic on deadline day
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Birmingham City could make a deadline day move for Iwata. The Japanese midfielder is considering leaving Celtic in search of regular football.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Iwata. But with Celtic on the verge of signing Arne Engels and expected to try and sign another midfielder, things seem to be stacked in the middle of the park despite the departure of Matt O'Riley.
One would be hoping to see more of someone like Odin Thiago Holm as well. He was considered a superb talent during his time in Norway but has not played a lot for Celtic so far.
