Celtic made a lot of tremendous signings during Ange Postecoglou's time as the manager of the club. A number of them continue to be key players despite the departure of the Australian last year. On the other hand, quite a few have left, with the likes of Jota and Matt O'Riley bringing in Scottish-record transfer fees.

There are some players who never quite found their feet at Parkhead after arriving in the Postecoglou era though. One of them was Liam Shaw.

Celtic agreed a pre-contract with Shaw in early 2021, before Postecoglou was appointed. He would arrive in the summer of 2021.

The midfielder had shown a ton of potential at Sheffield Wednesday and even earned comparisons with Kristoffer Ajer upon arrival. But only managed to make a couple of appearances for Celtic before leaving on loan. He would never play for the Hoops again.

Shaw could not make it at Celtic, either under the management of Postecoglou or Brendan Rodgers. He quietly left this summer and recently joined Fleetwood Town in League Two.

Despite his less-than-impressive spell at Celtic, it looks like Shaw has only positive things to say about the club and does not regret his decision to leave Sheffield Wednesday for the chance to play for the Hoops. As reported by Glasgow World, he told Fleetwood Town club media:

"I got the phone call from my agent that Celtic were interested. It was a no brainer. A great experience. The standard of training has improved me. It was a pinch me moment (his debut vs Real Betis).

“When I started to play I was like, I’m here now, let’s do it. I thought I did well and we won the game. An experience I’ll hold for the rest of my life."

It is easy to forget but Shaw did feature in Celtic's victory against Real Betis in the Europa League. Postecoglou was able to mastermind a win despite playing a B-team on that night.

Of course, it could have worked out much better for Shaw at Celtic. But it was not to be. We can only wish him the best of luck at Fleetwood Town and hope that he gets his career back on track.
