Ange Postecoglou makes honest admission about Celtic fans
Ange Postecoglou did not spend a long time managing Celtic but it was a memorable stint nonetheles. in two seasons at Parkhead, he was able to win five trophies including the league on both occasions. Perhaps what made his success even sweeter was how unexpected it was. Many had written the Australian off before he had even arrived and in the previous campaign, the Hoops had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership.
It was not just the success that made Postecoglou a favourite among Celtic fans though. It was also the manner in which he carried himself.
Postecoglou seemed to understand what it meant to be a football fan more than most. And it was no wonder that the fans absolutely adored him.
As reported by Daily Record, while on punditry duties for ITV, Postecoglou was asked by host Laura Woods about whether he missed the Scottish fans following his time at Celtic and the Australian said:
""I do. That is part of the reason I am on the bandwagon!
"When the national team plays they are great - and the good thing is that since Steve Clarke has taken over the team represents them really well. It is a credit to them, and the will play a big part tomorrow.""
Ange Postecoglou makes honest admission about Celtic fans
It is not hard to see why Postecoglou might miss the fans in Scotland. For years, he had never gotten his chance to manage at a top level in Europe and when that opportunity finally came knocking, it was at a club like Celtic.
With all due respect to fans in Australia and Japan, it would be safe to say that Celtic have a special fanbase. And anybody associated with the club cannot help but appreciate that.
Of course, most fans would have wanted to see Postecoglou remain at Celtic for much longer than he did. After two seasons at Parkhead, he went looking for the next challenge and joined Tottenham Hotspur. His first season in England is largely considered a success but it remains to be seen whether he can now take them to the next level in the 2023/24 upcoming campaign.
