Celtic have completed one major signing recently, as they announced the transfer of Adam Idah from Norwich City on a permanent basis. The long-running saga has finally come to an end and it has been suggested that it took the Hoops a package of around £9.5 million in order to get the deal over the line.
If the add-ons are met, it would be the most expensive move in the club's history, surpassing the £9 million signing of Odsonne Edouard from PSG. And already, there appears to talk of another big money move.
Celtic have been linked with FC Augsburg midfielder, Arne Engels, recently. There is some positive news in that regard as well.
As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic have made Engels one of the top targets, if Matt O’Riley leaves the club in this summer window. Rennes are also keen on the Belgian midfielder, but it’s understood that he would prefer a move to Parkhead to play in the Champions League.
£9 million Belgian midfielder prefers move to Celtic
Engels is a regular contributor for FC Augsburg, whether that be in the role of a starter or an option on the bench. The German are believed to have a transfer value around £9 million in mind.
Someone like Engels would perfectly fit the player profile Celtic have consistently signed in recent years. None of their previous signings has had this kind of transfer value though.
Engels would be an excellent addition to Brendan Rodgers' squad and such a move would also showcase a change in the transfer approach at Celtic. There has been talk of them wanting to improve in Europe under the management of the Northern Irishman and if they can make signings like this, then that starts to feel like a real possibility and not a pipedream.
