3 goalkeepers Celtic could target next summer amid Joe Hart retirement
By Kian Long
Celtic are expected to be active in the transfer window this summer, for multiple reasons. The club now have another item to tick off the to-do-list, as Joe Hart announced he would be retiring from the game at the end of this season. The Englishman is still the Hoops' first-choice goalkeeper and they will need to replace him.
Hart has had a tremendous career and he has exceeded all expectations set of him. In terms of league titles, he has won the Premier League twice and the Scottish Premiership twice. Brendan Rodgers will hope to add to this tally before he retires, as a parting gift.
Without further ado, here are the three goalkeepers Celtic should target in the summer to replace the retiring Hart...
1. Caoimhin Kelleher
Caoimhin Kelleher has been a long-term transfer target for Celtic, so he seems like the obvious choice to fill in between the posts when Hart vacates the spot at the end of the season.
The Liverpool backup goalkeeper rarely picks up any minutes when Alisson Becker is available. In fact, this season so far, he has only played 5 Premier League matches, according to Transfermarkt. Admittedly, he is the cover option to arguably the best goalkeeper in the world but at 25 years of age, he'll have aspirations of playing regular first-team football, which can be offered to him at Celtic.
Just recently, Celtic were named as the favourites to land Kelleher this summer. So who knows? Brendan Rodgers could be in contact with his former club for all the right reasons, to bring in an exceptional professional. The transfer fee could be a stumbling block though.
