It would be an understatement to say that the Celtic AGM was a grand failure this time around. Those in attendance were clearly in no mood for excuses and made their dissatisfaction with how the club has been run clear with their boos, red cards, walkouts and chants. On the other hand, the board seemed to be taken aback by the entire thing.
At first, they adjourned the meeting within the first five minutes. And then, called it off completely following Ross Desmond's statement.
Of course, it is Desmond's statement that has grabbed all of the headlines. But amid all this, something that Peter Lawwell said has gone under the radar and was problematic as well.
As reported by CeltsAreHere, he said:
"Some don’t usually attend the AGM."
Peter Lawwell's problematic claim at Celtic AGM everybody missed
We do not need to tell you why that might not have been taken well by those in attendance. It sounds like a dig at some of the shareholders after all.
At this moment, the club are doing a terrible job of uniting the fanbase, that is for sure. They simply cannot run away from the situation. It is very clear that the supporters are intent on seeing change this time around and a decent run of results under the management of Martin O'Neill did not change that.
Yes, the board does admit that they have made mistakes. But not much has been done over the years to rectify them.
They did not replace Kyogo in January. And then, instead of going out and signing a quality striker in the summer, they allowed Adam Idah to leave late in the window and then failed to secure a replacement. That is just one example amongst many.
It remains to be seen where things head from here. But it is safe to say that the AGM did nothing to bridge the gap.
