Celtic are now said to be receiving surprise interest in another defender amid ongoing talk of Alistair Johnston leaving the club. The Bhoys are now battling to keep hold of their best players at a time when many hoped they would be strengthening.
Transfer business has been slow at Parkhead this summer, and while the Bhoys are trying to play catch-up, keeping hold of their top players seems to be the biggest concern.
Daizen Maeda has left, and both Arne Engels and Reo Hatate are expected to leave, but there is now confirmed interest from Everton in Alistair Johnston, and Martin O'Neill hinted at the reliable right-back getting his head turned.
Celtic will battle to keep hold of Johnston, but they may have more than one concern.
Osasuna show interest in Kieran Tierney
In a somewhat surprising transfer link, LaLiga club Osasuna are now said to be showing interest in Kieran Tierney. Angel Garcia has reported that one of Osasuna's chiefs has contacted Celtic about the possible signing of Tierney this summer.
Osasuna, who have been in Europe recently, finished just one spot above the drop zone last season and are desperate to avoid such a poor season this time around.
Tierney has played in LaLiga before, spending time with Real Sociedad on loan, but it would be a surprise if he wanted to leave Celtic just one year on from his emotional return from Arsenal.
The Scot went through a tough time at the back end of his time at Arsenal, and Celtic has been a safe spot for him, allowing the full-back to rebuild his confidence.
Tierney was one of the few Scotland players to enjoy a strong World Cup, and he will surely be looking forward to what will hopefully be another strong season with Celtic when he can stay fit.
As for Celtic, they already have a lack of depth on the left, needing a back-up for Tierney after deciding not to sign Marcelo Saracchi on a permanent deal. The Bhoys could have signed the left-back for just £1.5million, but they passed, and a gap remains on the left, although there have been links with former defender Greg Taylor, who could leave PAOK.
The Hoops already have a lot of business to do this summer, and they are not trying to keep hold of Johnston, so losing Tierney will surely be out of the question for Martin O'Neill.
