Scottish non-league club Inverness Thistle has aimed a harsh message at Celtic, joking about the board's lack of investment in the January transfer window.
In a post made to X, Inverness Thistle said:
"We are delighted to announce that we have managed to invest the same amount as Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC during the January transfer window.
We managed to convince the club treasurer to free up £0.00.
“World Class Basics”"
With over 150,000 views on social media, the post has certainly caused some outrage among supporters of the Hoops. Fans have taken to the comments to tell the club that they'll win nothing, to which Inverness Thistle fought back, saying that they'll quote tweet it with a trophy round-up at the end of the season.
Celtic the butt of the joke
This post is just another one that will cause fans to have even more hatred towards the board.
Although in the winter transfer window, they made five signings, they were all on loan, and the club have spent a grand total of £0, as stated by Inverness Thistle. With tens of millions in the bank, it is a point of outrage that they refuse to splash the cash when it comes to bringing players in.
The board have always told the supporters how they care about the club and how they want to see it thrive, and are spending as much as they can, but it is clear that isn't true. They want to make themselves look like the good guys, when in reality, with all of their actions this season taken into consideration, such as their unjustified ban on fan media and the removal of the Green Brigade ultras group, they actually have some level of disdain towards fans of the club.
To be the butt of the joke from a club playing in the North Caledonian League, which is the sixth tier of the Scottish football pyramid, is understandably hurtful for a lot of fans. They don't want to see their club slandered for something out of their control, and the outrage on social media has shown that.
However, despite the jokes from Inverness Thistle, manager Martin O'Neill seems chuffed with the new incomings. He has praised Joel Mvuka, Junior Adamu and Benjamin Arthur before they have even played a match in the Hoops, and it's safe to say that both Julian Aurajo and Tomas Cvancara have hit the ground running in Glasgow.
