Celtic will host the Rangers this weekend at Parkhead in the first Glasgow Derby of 2026. Under normal circumstances, you would view the Hoops as the favourites to clinch all three points against Danny Rohl's team, who have failed in pretty much every pressure game in this campaign. The issue is, the defending champions are even worse at this moment.
All the good work of Martin O'Neill has been completely undone since Wilfried Nancy's appointment. The timing was always questionable, as the Frenchman was handed a tough run of games to start his reign.
Even more worrying is the fact that things have not improved at all, even after that Scottish League Cup final defeat. In fact, their most recent display, against Motherwell, might have been the worse of the lot.
Conveniently, right before the Glasgow Derby, some rumours have cropped up about Celtic still keeping an eye on Kjetil Knutsen. The Norwegian manager was many fans' first choice when the post was available. On paper, he would have been a terrific hire. But is it possible that he could take the job, if Nancy is sacked?
Next Celtic manager rumours emerge right before Glasgow Derby
Here are my two cents on the matter. It is very unlikely that Knutsen will come in as Celtic manager, if he were brought in earlier.
It is very likely that Celtic would have explored the move then. In fact, it is believed that Knutsen has agreed on a contract extension with Bodo/Glimt.
Whether Nancy ends up getting the sack or not, we do not think that Knutsen will be taking the job. The sad reality is that, at this moment in time, there is no aspect in which Celtic are better than his current team. That is just the reality of the matter.
