Eddie Howe turned down the chance to join Celtic some summers back before ending up at Newcastle United. With the Magpies, he recently became a legend, having guided them to League Cup triumph. The aim has to be higher moving forward for them though. So expect them to try and make a splash in the summer transfer window.

It looks like one of the positions where Newcastle United will look to strengthen this summer is between the goalposts. And in turn, that could hand Celtic a boost.

As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United are readying a “concrete” move to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. They want a new goalie despite Nick Pope's impressive form.

There have been suggestions that it could take a transfer fee in the region of £30 million to sign Trafford in the summer. Why is this all good news for Celtic? Well, because the Hoops had recently been linked with a move for Newcastle United's veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Dubravka is already a cover option for the Magpies. And if the club end up signing Trafford as well, one would imagine that the veteran would slip further down the pecking order. That should come as no surprise. After all, he is 36 years of age.

That might hand Celtic a better chance of going out and signing him this summer. Of course, this is all dependent on how genuine their interest is in bringing in another veteran goalkeeper, despite having Kasper Schmeichel in their ranks.

The Dane is currently out injured, having suffered a shoulder issue while playing for Denmark in a recent game against Portugal. In his absence, Viljami Sinisalo has come into the team. He was also signed last summer, from Aston Villa.
