Celtic are pretty accustomed to having a Premiership fixture postponed in League Cup Final weekend. However, it is rather more unusual for the Celts not to have a match at all that weekend. The Hoops have featured in eight of the last ten League Cup Finals, winning seven of them, beaten in last December's showpiece by St Mirren.

This year though, they were demolished 3-0 by Rangers in the quarter-finals at Ibrox, a result that rather kick-started the current miserable run of form. Over the weekend, Derek McInnes' side then ousted Aberdeen at Hampden before, in something of a shock, Hibernian came from a goal down to beat Edinburgh rivals Heart of Midlothian in the other semi.

Thus, with Celtic due to host Hibs on Premier Sports Cup Final weekend, that match has now been postponed, with a new date having been confirmed.

New date set for Celtic vs Hibernian

As announced by the SPFL on Tuesday afternoon, Celtic's rearranged clash with Hibernian will now take place on Wednesday 13 January 2027, with a 7:45pm (GMT) kick off.

Will Celtic vs Hibernian be on TV?

No, Celtic's clash with Hibs at Parkhead in January will not be broadcast on TV. Alongside the Hibees, fellow finalists Rangers' clash with St Johnstone has also been moved to 13 January.

This clash at McDiarmid Park has been selected for live broadcast by Sky Sports, who are also set to show the first leg of a Carabao Cup semi-final from down in England that night too. It is expected that Celtic Player will carry pay-per-view coverage for those not able to attend, but this will be confirmed closer to the time.

As outlined, after the Europa League clash with Omonia in Nicosia on 10 December, Martin O'Neill's team will have ten days without a game, returning to action at Pittodrie. This gives them a useful little breather, ahead of the hectic Christmas and New Year's schedule, which culminates with a Glasgow derby at Ibrox.

The Hoops are currently four points ahead of their great rivals, having played one game more. Who knows what the table will look like by the time the pair take to the park in Govan in 61 days time.
