Fans will be hoping that Celtic remain busy for the remaining days of the January transfer window. There is not a lot of time left, and the Hoops have a lot of work to do if they are to provide Martin O'Neill with a team that can win this title race against Hearts and the Rangers. It looks like we know one player who won't be ending up at Parkhead anytime soon, though.
Over the years, Celtic have missed out on a lot of top talents. One they had in their academy, but failed to recognise, is Andy Robertson.
It would be safe to say that Robertson has far exceeded whatever the Celtic coaches had thought the future held for him. He is a bona fide Liverpool legend and the Scottish national team captain.
For a few years now, there have been rumours of Robertson making a return to Parkhead when his Liverpool contract ran out, as he does not have a key role in the team these days. Of course, it mostly based on speculation and the fact that the left-back has never made a secret of the fact that he is a Celtic supporter and would like to turn out for the Hoops someday. That window seems to be closing though.
'Negotiations underway' - Fabrizio Romano ends hopes of Celtic signing
Robertson is set to turn 32 soon. If a move to Celtic is to happen, there is not much time left for that. The issue is, it looks like he is closing in on a move to another Premier League giant, ending any hopes of an eventual Parkhead switch anytime soon.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, negotiations are underway between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for Robertson. Talks will continue today.
On the other hand, according to the highly reliable David Ornstein, Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign Robertson. It is not done, but talks between all parties are advancing in a bid to reach an agreement.
So, it looks like Robertson is closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur. One would imagine that someone of his standing would command a multi-year contract. And by the time that runs out, a return to Celtic Park might no longer be on the cards.
Some things are not meant to be. And it looks like seeing Robertson in a Celtic shirt belongs in that category, unfortunately.
