'Mistake' - Celtic slammed for making big-money panic signing

Celtic have been slammed for making a big-money panic signing who is struggling to deliver for Brendan Rodgers' side.

So far this summer, Celtic have spent around £3 million on transfer fees. It is safe to say that that has not met the expectations of even the most pessimistic of fans. The Hoops need to show a lot more ambition, especially as they have brought in some pretty decent money this summer through Nicolas Kuhn's move to Como FC and Jeremie Frimpong's sell-on fee.

Yes, Celtic do need to spend more money on making signings. That being said, they have not been particularly impressive with their recent recruitment, even when splashing out.

Arne Engels finds himself outside of the starting XI less than a year after becoming the record signing in Celtic history. And the way Benjamin Nygren is playing, it is hard to see the Belgian international getting back into the team anytime soon.

Adam Idah might not have been Celtic's record signing, but he was pretty close. The club were believed to have agreed a £8.5 million initial fee plus another £1 million in add-ons to sign him from Norwich City last summer. Things are not going the Irishman's way right now though.

Idah is struggling to establish himself as Celtic's first-choice striker. Brendan Rodgers has now openly admitted that he needs some competition to be brought in in that area of the pitch.

There are also those who feel that Idah was a panic signing last summer. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Hugh Keevins told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard:

"They are drifting towards the same mistake.

“Adam Idah was signed in a fit of panic. They paid so far over the odds for him, it’s not funny."

To be honest, it is hard to argue against that assessment. When Idah was initially brought in on loan from Norwich City, it was believed that the Canaries would be happy to receive a transfer fee in the region of £3 million the following summer. The Hoops ended up paying triple that figure eventually. And unfortunately, the Irishman has not been able to deliver.
