Another Celtic player could be set for an exit as likely departures begin to stack up. The Bhoys are more than likely going to lose Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate this summer, and there could be others.
The Hoops are going to have to spend significantly to replace those players, and beyond that concern, there is a concern that the Celtic squad is going to be stripped back before any replacements are found.
Celtic need to take a proactive approach to their business because of the likely exits, but it has been a struggle to get deals over the line up to this point.
Celtic striker could be set to depart
One of the positions where Celtic are already lacking in depth is the striker position. The arrival of Camilo Duran has helped, while Kelechi Iheanacho looks as though he will be re-signed, which will be a major step in ensuring there is enough depth at the top of the pitch.
One player who is unlikely to feature regardless of the depth at the top of the pitch is Irish frontman Johnny Kenny. Kenny spent the second half of last season out on loan with Bolton Wanderers, helping them secure promotion to the Championship, albeit he missed the playoffs due to a significant injury, which he has now recovered from.
Kenny scored six and assisted three in 14 league appearances for Bolton, and it is now being reported that Bolton want him back permanently. Fellow Championship club Millwall, who reached the playoffs in the second tier last season, are also said to be interested in the frontman, who is likely to cost between ÂŁ1.5million and ÂŁ2million.
At 23 years of age, Kenny is going to want to play regularly going forward, and after three loan spells, he may feel as though he has had his fill of loan spells.
Celtic, meanwhille, do not have a place for Kenny, with Callum Osmand ahead of him, and that is not counting the primary options, which are likely to be Duran and Iheanacho. A sale may be better for all parties, but it will be interesting to see if Millwall can make a real play to swipe him from the grasp of Bolton, who are likely to have an advantage owing to last season's loan spell.
Kenny is also more likely to find regular starts at Bolton, given Millwall have promotion ambitions. For now, Kenny is in Portugal with the Celtic squad.
