Opinions change very quickly in modern football. In the days following their win over the Rangers at Hampden Park, all the talk was about Martin O'Neill being handed the job until the end of the season. But after losing to FC Midtjylland in convincing fashion, the majority of the support now wants the club to focus on their search for a permanent manager once again.

The reality is, Celtic will need to do a lot more than just appoint a new manager to fix the issues at the club. That being said, it is part of the solution.

O'Neill was never going to be the long-term answer, as I have always maintained. He is 73 years of age and is returning after more than half a decade away from management. But it is not just down to whether he is still a good manager or not.

Celtic simply do not have a squad capable of keeping up with the best in Europe. That is a reality that the club need to accept and invest in it in the January transfer window. The idea that their struggles were all down to Brendan Rodgers is nonsense.

'Maybe the perfect fit' - Celtic tipped to appoint terrific manager

Amid all this, Celtic have been encouraged to appoint Kjetil Knutsen as their next permanent manager by a club hero. As reported by Football Insider, Johan Mjallby said on TNT Sports:

"He would definitely (prioritise) still being good on the ball, but a mix, I would say, between the game Brendan Rodgers played, and the game Martin O’Neill wants to play. Maybe the perfect fit, who knows?"

Knutsen could very well turn out to be an excellent choice for Celtic. He is a very good manager who has a proven track record of winning.

Just look at the job that he has done at Bodo/Glimt, winning four league titles and getting their historic results in Europe. In many ways, he seems to be the perfect fit for what Celtic need at this point in time.
