It is safe to say that things have not turned out as Matt O'Riley would have envisioned when he left Celtic for Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer in a Scottish-record transfer deal. The Danish international was superb for the Hoops last season but has found the going tough in England. He was not helped by an early injury after joining the Seagulls.

O'Riley has been struggling to get into the Brighton & Hove Albion team recently. He has not featured in any of their last three Premier League games.

In the first two, he was left as an unused substitute on the bench. And in the most recent one, against his former side Fulham, O'Riley was not even in the squad for the Seagulls.

On the other hand, he has been handed another blow. O'Riley was left out of the Denmark national team squad for their upcoming international games this month.

It is never easy to adjust to the Premier League. But even then, one would have expected a much better start to life at Brighton & Hove Albion, considering the transfer fee they shelled out to sign him in the summer.

The grass is not always greener on the other side of Celtic Park. And it looks like O'Riley might be finding that out right now.

Of course, Celtic went out and signed a couple of midfielders in the summer. Arne Engels made a slow start to life at Parkhead after his record signing from FC Augsburg. But in recent weeks, he seems to have found his feet and is earning a lot of plaudits.

On the other hand, Luke McCowan has exceeded most expectations that were set for him as well. He is someone who deserves more game time.
