Out of the several strikers Celtic have been linked with this summer, Evan Ferguson is one of the most interesting names. The Brighton & Hove Albion forward was once the Premier League's next £100 million player after he made a bright start to life with the Seagulls. But since then, his form his faded away.
Ferguson managed to score just one goal last season in 23 appearances. He was sent out on loan to West Ham United in the second half of the campaign, in hopes that reuniting with Graham Potter would help him rediscover his form.
That did not happen. In fact, he did not score in 8 appearances for West Ham United. Now, he finds himself in a difficult position in his career. Celtic are one of the teams that has been suggested as a loan destination repeatedly. But it looks like Italy is an option being seriously considered.
As reported by Relevo (via Balls.ie), Ferguson has been offered to both AS Roma and Atalanta. Nottingham Forest and Everton have also been linked with him.
Massive Evan Ferguson transfer news drops amid Celtic links
It is believed that Brighton & Hove Albion would be ready to part ways with Ferguson this summer if an offer in the region of £28 million is made. But would either AS Roma or Atalanta be open to making that sort of a bid for a player who has struggled for the past few years? It feels unlikely.
Of course, if Brighton are unable to attract transfer bids for Ferguson, they would have to consider another loan exit. That is where Celtic come into the picture.
Celtic might be the perfect destination for someone like Ferguson to rediscover his confidence in front of goal. There is no doubt about his talent. We have seen him deliver on the Premier League level already.
