Martin O'Neil has been speaking after securing his 250th win as Celtic boss, which was a 2-0 away win over Motherwell on Sunday. The Hoops returned to winning ways thanks to goals from Camilo Duran and Benjamin Nygren, ending a run of three straight defeats that came before the international break.

Celtic have a tough run of games after this one, so they knew the importance of picking up all three points at Fir Park.

They did so convincingly, and had it not been for Alex Paulsen in the Motherwell goal, it could have been five or six.

O'Neill was understandably pleased with what he saw from his men on Sunday, and speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: "Just the overall performance, I thought we were excellent. We tried to create nd scored goals. The performance was terrific."

"I think that getting back to basics, the things that make the club tick and the team strong. Obviously, I think those things were in evidence today."

He added: "
What you have to do is that, when you lose a couple of games. You need to look inwards and look at what you need to improve on. We went back to what makes us strong.

"I think the first goal is very, very important - brilliant from Camilo, back to his best, that settles everyone down. You need the second goal, and after that, there was a general relaxation. We could have gone three or four, which we didn't do, but we were good.

"We could have scored more, we didn't do, but we will on another day."

Asked about whether he knew about the win being his 250th as Celtic manager, O'Neill replied: "It was mentioned beforehand but I genuinely didn't know that. I'm glad to be around to do it and there will be a day that I can look back on that."

O'Neill becomes one of only five managers to have managed to reach the 250-mark. His side will now turn their attention to a tough-looking Europea League clash with Benfica on Thursday night.
