Well, in recent times, we have seen Cameron Carter-Vickers undergo surgery and the American defender is expected to be out for a long time. Unfortunately for Celtic, two more are set to join him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. And one of them is somewhat unexpected to be very honest.
The first is Callum Osmand. The young striker had been impressing lately but got injured in the game against FC Midtjylland. Unfortunately, the worst-case scenario has come true and he will be undergoing surgery.
The second name is not one the fans would have been expecting. Alistair Johnston will also undergo surgery. It has been weeks since he was injured in that game against Sturm Graz. So, why has it taken so long to come to this decision?
As reported by The Celtic Way, Martin O'Neill said about the status of those two as well as that of Marcelo Saracchi, who picked up an injury of his own against Kilmarnock:
"He's done his hamstring. I don't now what this game is about.
"And the other two lads, Osmand and Johnston, are having surgery on Tuesday so they are going to be out for a long time."
Martin O'Neill confirms out of nowhere that Celtic player needs surgery
Johnston and Carter-Vickers actually got injured in the same game. While the American underwent surgery soon after the match, it has taken the Canadian international weeks to do that. Why?
Is it because the club had initially thought that Johnston's situation was manageable without needing to undergo surgery but it has proven to be worse than first thought? To us, that feels like the only logical explanation.
We can only wish both Osmand and Johnston the best of luck. Let's hope that they are back to full fitness as soon as possible.
As for Celtic, this is clearly starting to become an unmanageable issue now. They need to find a solution as soon as possible.
