Former Celtic full-back Marcelo Saracchi looks to be back on the market after seeing his move fall through. Saracchi has had a tough summer by all accounts, having expected Celtic to come in for a permanent deal.
The full-back did well during his loan spell from Boca Juniors last season, providing important cover for Kieran Tierney, who is generally unable to play week-in, week-out due to being particularly injury-prone.
Celtic still need cover at left-back, and Martin O'Neill has spoken positively of Saracchi and his influence last season, but the Bhoys did not end up pursuing a permanent deal.
Saracchi's agent made it clear that Celtic never made a clear offer and that the player would be pursuing other avenues as a result. But one of his alternatives now looks to be off the table.
Saracchi sees deal fall through
According to reports in Argentina, MLS side Houston Dynamo were hoping to wrap up a deal for Saracchi this summer, but their offer of £900,000 for 60% of the player's rights has fallen flat.
It's claimed Boca are standing firm by their £1.5million asking price, and to their credit, it's a pretty fair, and perhaps even low, asking price.
For now, it looks as though Saracchi will be staying put, at least he can find another club. Meanwhile, Celtic are still left searching for a new left-back to back up and compete with Tierney.
The left side of defence is a clear gap for the Bhoys, who are going to need to be able to count on depth across their back line to compete domestically and in Europe. Saracchi seems as though he would be a wise signing, at just £1.5million, especially give he has proven he can do a job at Premiership level.
But O'Neill and the club's recruitment staff seem to have other ideas this summer, even with the clock ticking until the start of the season, and indeed the end of the summer transfer window.
