Since Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic in the winter to join French Ligue 1 side Rennes, the Hoops have been linked with a long list of strikers despite not completing a move for any of them so far. That could change in the upcoming summer transfer window, with a genuine third option needed up top. One of the latest names to be suggested as a potential option for the Glasgow giants is Jamie Vardy.
Vardy has decided to leave Leicester City at the end of this season, bringing an end to his legendary career with the Foxes that saw him win the Premier League and the FA Cup while also establishing himself as one of the highest scorers in English top-flight history.
Now, at 38 years of age, he is available as a free agent. And while he might be nowhere near his best anymore, Vardy is still a capable goalscorer.
He scored 18 goals in the Championship last season. In this campaign, despite Leicester City's relegation from the Premier League, he has found the back of the net on eight occasions.
Major Jamie Vardy to Celtic summer transfer update
There are not too many strikers that Celtic can sign, with Vardy's experience, pedigree and quality, who are available as free agents. So, a move is certainly worth considering.
But as reported by TEAMtalk, Celtic have been linked with a move for Vardy, but that would go against their transfer policy as they are looking at younger players they can develop and move on for transfer profit. Leeds United and Burnley are both possibilities for the Englishman. On the other hand, the chances of him playing at Wrexham are low.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Vardy. As things stand, it is unlikely that he will end up at Celtic but never say never in football.
