Luka Modric sends Champions League warning to Celtic
Celtic's Champions League campaign has been a bit of a mixed bag so far. On one hand, there was the glorious opening day win against Slovan Bratislava. Brendan Rodgers' side won 5-1, that had left them second in the points table behind only Bayern Munich. It is not often that you see the Hoops score five in Europe these days.
But then, the trip to Germany to take on Borussia Dortmund proved to be a reality check for Celtic. They looked naive up against top-level opposition and lost 7-1 at Signal Iduna Park.
The two results mean that they are now in the playoff spots. Of course, qualification to the next round of the competition is still very much a possibility. But at the same time, Celtic will need to make sure that they do the job when it comes to the winnable games that they have remaining.
One such opposition is Dinamo Zagreb. But it won't be easy to deal with the Croatian team. Especially when they have the 'next Luka Modric' in their ranks.
Luka Modric sends Champions League warning to Celtic
The player we are talking about is Martin Baturina. Modric himself seems like a fan of the youngster. As reported by the Daily Record, the Real Madrid icon said about his Croatian international teammate:
"We’ll see. Marta is on his way, he’s a great talent, that’s for sure.
“Now, it’s up to him to train and work hard. I believe one day he’ll be a key player for the national team, as I was. Or as I am. He has a lot of potential and quality. But it’s up to him. He has to improve every day and learn."
Baturina is a fantastic talent for sure. And someone that Celtic will need to keep a close eye on when they meet Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League later this season.
There have even been rumours that Real Madrid and Manchester United are interested in signing Baturina. That just goes on to show the level of talent that Celtic will have to deal with, even in one of their 'winnable' games. We cannot see a repeat of the Mykhailo Mudryk performance from a few years back.
