Celtic are always on the lookout for players who can improve their squad even when things are going smoothly for the defending champions. In recent years, the Hoops have not signed many players from Scottish clubs. The only two that come to mind are David Turnbull, who is no longer at Parkhead, and Luke McCowan, who has impressed since coming in from Dundee in the summer.
Now, it looks like another Scottish player has caught their eye. It is Lennon Miller, the Motherwell wonderkid who is already catching the eye of top teams across Europe.
Miller is still 18 years of age but he is already a nailed-on starter for Motherwell. Not only that, he has even captained the Steelmen on a couple of occasions.
Both Celtic and the Rangers are believed to be interested in Miller and understandably so. In that race, the Hoops will have the financial edge for sure. The same cannot be said when it comes to English clubs though.
Liverpool could hand major transfer blow to Celtic
As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool could blow Celtic out of the water in the race to sign Miller. Other than the Reds, Manchester United, Man City, Chelsea and Aston Villa scouts were all in attendance at the under-21s game between Scotland and France, with the Motherwell ace the focus of their attention.
That level of competition will make it a lot more difficult for Celtic to sign Miller. It would also allow Motherwell to raise the asking transfer fee for the midfielder.
Of course, it is very possible that Miller could decide to remain in Scotland and continue his development here rather than make the move to a top English club this early in his career and risk getting lost in the shuffle. So, do not count Celtic out of the race just yet.
