Over the past week, we have seen a long list of names being linked with the Celtic job after Brendan Rodgers unexpectedly resigned from his post. Most fans would like to see Ange Postecoglou make a return, with the Australian not having a club at the moment. But it has been claimed that he wants to take a break from football. The likes of Kieran McKenna and Craig Bellamy are not believed to be keen on leaving their current roles either.
Two names that Celtic fans have been impressed by are Kjetil Knutsen of Bodo/Glimt and Nicky Hayen of Club Brugge. Let's see if either of them is open to the idea of heading to Parkhead. It is worth mentioning that the former is believed to be out of contract at the end of the year.
Lee Carsley is a surprise name Celtic are believed to hold an interest in. In fact, there have been rumours that the club have already interviewed him for the role, although it is unclear how accurate the speculation is.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Celtic have been long-term admirers of Carsley. The Scottish club have been impressed with his work as England U21s manager, as well as his brief stint in interim charge of the Three Lions' senior national team. He isn’t a frontrunner for the job, but someone who is under consideration.
Lee Carsley to Celtic update amid rumours about interview
So, it looks like Carsley is not someone Celtic are viewing as a leading candidate to take the job. But they are monitoring him, in case other targets do not end up working out.
Of course, it is always good to keep your options open. That being said, if Carsley ends up becoming next Celtic manager, it would be a very underwhelming appointment.
Admittedly, Carsley has done a decent job at the youth levels of the game. But the pressure of delivering at Celtic is something completely different and one he might not be ready for. Most never are. Bringing in proven winners is what the Hoops need to do.
