Celtic's transfer business needs to pick up some momentum. Right now, things seem to be moving at a snail's pace. The Scottish champions have been very successful when it comes to finding new homes for their present crop of players. But when it comes to making signings, things seem to have stagnated after making some early window moves that included the return of Kieran Tierney, which had been decided months back with his pre-contract.
Fans will be hoping that the club have a master plan in place and will go on a flurry of activity over the coming weeks to significantly strengthen Brendan Rodgers' squad. But if the past is anything to go by, there is very little hope of that happening.
Do not get us wrong, Celtic are making moves. But they do not seem to be showing the amount of ambition that they need to.
As reported by Voetbal International, Celtic made an initial offer of €1.5 million to sign Jakob Breum earlier this summer, which Go Ahead Eagles laughingly rejected. The Hoops recently raised their offer twice, but the transfer fee was nowhere near what the Dutch club wanted for the Dane.
'Laughingly rejected' - Celtic fans won't like transfer news
To be very honest, it is not hard to understand why Celtic's offer might have been 'laughingly rejected' by Go Ahead Eagles. Just look at Breum's numbers from last season.
He scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 Eredivisie appearances. What are the chances that a player of that quality would be available for a €1.5 million fee?
Pretty close to zero if you ask us. Celtic need to make som serious bids over the coming weeks, if they want to complete some deals before the summer window closes. It is not important to 'win' every deal.
