Kyogo Furuhashi made a mistake leaving Celtic in the summer. That has been pretty clear for quite some time now. The Japanese forward was believed to have moved to Ligue 1 in the middle of the season, passing on the chance to play Champions League knockout phase football, as it would increase his chances of getting picked for the upcoming World Cup.
Unfortunately, that plan has completely fallen apart. Kyogo has not even made the matchday squad in Rennes' last three games. It is hard to imagine that this is what is going to get him selected to represent Japan at the World Cup.
One thing is clear, things cannot continue like this for Kyogo. Rennes are rumoured to be open to an exit in the summer as well. So, could we see him make a quick return to Celtic?
Chances of Kyogo returning might have increased drastically after Jota suffered a long-term injury, which is expected to keep him out of action for six to nine months. Let's see what the future holds.
Kyogo's blockbuster Celtic return now on due to one reason
As reported by the Daily Record, while speaking to Open Goal, Paul Slane stated that he would do everything to get Kyogo back for next season after Jota's injury. On the other hand, Andy Halliday said:
"The mad thing is, there would be a chance as well. He’s not playing at all. I think he (Brendan Rodgers) would take him back."
Kyogo is proven in a Celtic jersey. Of course, we did not see him at his best following the departure of Ange Postecoglou as manager, but even then, he was good enough to hold down his spot as the first-choice striker for the Hoops.
So, in a situation of need, when Jota is not expected to return to action for a while, it would make sense for Celtic to go back to the tried-and-tested and bring back Kyogo. But then again, he is 30 years old and rarely have we seen the Hoops shell out a transfer fee to bring in a player who is at that point in his career. Will that change when it comes to the Japanese forward?
