Former Rangers star turned pundit Kris Boyd has taken aim at Celtic supporters who protested majority shareholder Dermot Desmond at a St Andrews golf event over the weekend.

The Celtic Fans Collective organised a protest that saw tennis balls thrown onto the course while Desmond was attempting to play golf.

Many Celtic fans are unhappy about how the club is being run, and they feel they are not being listened to by the club, although some channels have been opened in recent months to try to at least start to resolve the ongoing issues between the club and its supporters.

Saturday's protests saw the club release a rather angry statement, and the Collective released a response of their own. The footage then went viral, and it has dominated Celtic news over the last 48 hours.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun about the incident, Boyd said: "They think they’re bigger than the club. They think they are the voice of reason.

“For me, you’re sitting there in dialigue with Celtic, you feel as if you might be able to get some things and star to to work.

“I think the board have realised they do need to have better relationships with certain individuals, with certain collective groups but I think the board will knuckle down on this now.

“I doesn’t matter what club it is – it’s pretty embarrassing for Scottish football that you’ve got a major tournament in another sport and it’s overshadowed with certain groups going and protesting when it’s got absolutely nothing to do with the sport that Dermot Desmond is playing.

“I get it – Dermot Desmond isn’t in Scotland a lot and they will feel it’s an opportunity to go and do it.
But there’s other ways you can protest without turning up and wasting a huge event in the Scottish calendar that goes worldwide.

“They might turn around and say it’s what they want, to highlight where we’re going wrong, the wrongdoings of the football club. But I think overall for Celtic, the statement, the way it was written, how quickly it was out, they were embarrassed and rightly so, they should be.”
