Considering Kris Boyd's history with the Rangers, it is easy to see why he might not be the biggest fan of Celtic. It is safe to say that Hoops supporters are not particularly fond of him either. But one of his recent comments sounds extremely petty following the Scottish club's exit from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Celtic put in a heroic performance at Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich. The likes of FC Barcelona and Arsenal might have suffered heavy defeats there in recent years but the Hoops led, and were the better team, for more than 90 minutes.

Unfortunately, they could not get over the finish line. Alphonso Davies scored with virtually the last kick of the game to make it 1-1 and send Bayern Munich through to the next round 3-2 on aggregate.

That is football sometimes. You do not always get what you deserve. But Celtic fans will surely be proud of the performance that the team put in against Bayern Munich.

This felt like a massive showcase for Scottish football and proof that they can still perform against the best teams in Europe. There is no doubt which team Boyd was hoping to see go through. He said on Sky Sports, he said:

"I've never been so delighted to see the ball hit the back of the Celtic net in all my life."

There is a time and place for everything. Those comments would not feel out of place coming from a fan. But not from a pundit speaking on a respected news platform.

It is what it is though. Celtic's Champions League campaign is over. Now, the focus turns towards the two remaining domestic competitions. They are leading the Premiership by a significant margin and are the frontrunners to win the Scottish Cup. The Hoops surely would not want to give Boyd any more reasons to be delighted.
