Kelechi Iheanacho has been going through a tough time at Sevilla recently and has not scored in La Liga so far this season. As a result, he has found himself as an unused substitute in recent games and been linked with a move away from the Spanish club despite joining them just last summer. Amid all this, Celtic have emerged as a potential destination for the former Manchester City striker.
Iheanacho is best known for his time in the Premier League. While he did play for Manchester City, most of his success came at Leicester City when Brendan Rodgers was coaching the Foxes.
Under the management of Rodgers, Iheanacho managed to register 43 goals and 23 assists in total. So, would the Nigerian be interested in reuniting with his former manager, this time at Celtic?
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are very keen to get a deal done on an initial six-month loan with an option to buy. Iheanacho is understood to be open to reuniting with Rodgers at Parkhead.
Kelechi Iheanacho stance on joining Brendan Rodgers at Celtic
It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Iheanacho and whether that is successful. There is not much time left in the winter transfer window.
Iheanacho is an experienced option and someone that Rodgers has already worked with extensively from their time together at Leicester City. Also, at 28 years of age, he is in his prime. So, it is easy to see the upside of signing someone like him despite his shaky form at Sevilla.
Ultimately, Celtic do need to sign a striker following the exit of Kyogo. They have also been linked with players like Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby IF and David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava. Let's see how it all plays out.
