Celtic fans are hoping that the club are able to complete a deal for Kelechi Iheanacho as a free agent in time. That is how disappointing the recent summer transfer window was for the Hoops. A lot of questions have been raised that need to be answered. But for now, the focus should be on reuniting Brendan Rodger with the former Leicester City striker.
Do not get us wrong, this is a last resort move and one that is unlikely to work out. But then, something is better than nothing.
Nothing is exactly what Celtic were left with at the end of deadline day. Coming into it, the hope was that they would be able to sign Kasper Dolberg, which would have been a very good signing. But once again, they allowed things to drag on for too long and Ajax swooped in at the last minute.
Why did Celtic allow Adam Idah to leave if they did not have a replacement in place already? Well, that is the primary question that needs to be answered. Perhaps the board thought that the £7 million offer from Swansea City was too good to pass up on even though they would not have a starting quality striker left. Who knows?
Kelechi Iheanacho to Celtic update drops as UEFA deadline closes in
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are working to complete the signing of Iheanacho. The move is likely to happen due to Brendan Rodgers’ relationship with the player, former during their time together at Leicester City.
Iheanacho played his best football under the management of Rodgers. But that is about the only positive that Celtic can hope to take out of this entire situation.
That 'best' was a 19-goal season in the 20/21 campaign. And since then, he has never finished in double digits.
In fact, Celtic were linked with him in January as well but Iheanacho decided to join Middlesbrough. There, he had just one goal in 15 appearances. So, if anybody is expecting him to be a top draw 'former Manchester City player', it is likely not going to work out like that. And that's if the move happens at all. With the Hoops, you never know.
